Sunshine Poms

We breed to meet and hopefully exceed the standard of the American Kennel Club  for the Pomeranian breed, as set by the American Pomeranian Club.  All of our dogs are AKC registered.

Pomeranians are wonderful companions and while they do not require a lot of living space they do require some exercise and frequent grooming in the form of brushing.  Their glorious coats are their crowning glory and their sweet and playful personalities make them endearing family pets and companions.  Because of their diminutive size these toy dogs are not the best fit with children under 10 years of age and those 10 and older need to be taught how to handle these small treasures so as not to cause them inadvertent harm :)

Alopecia X or Black Skin Disease (BSD) is a disease, for which there is no genetic test, that causes the dog to lose their coat.  Some dogs skin will turn black, hence the name, and some dog's skin can remain pink.  In most instances the dog will begin to show signs of hair loss as early as 18 months or in few cases as late as 9 years, with the majority of cases revealing themselves between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.  The males are the majority of the ones who actually become bald and the females are usually the silent carriers, maintaining coat.

Currently, there are several scientific studies being done to try and isolate the gene/genes responsible for this disease, but to date there is no success.

Sadly, I believe that there is BSD in all American lines. I have tried to avoid certain lines rumored to have specific affected and carrier dogs with BSD, but I can't declare my dogs to be BSD free.   To date I have not, to my knowledge, produced a BSD dog.
